Yandex Search is the third largest search engine in the world and is widely adopted in Eastern Europe. It holds 60% of the market share and boasts 60 million monthly active users.

my role

my role

As one of the three design managers on the Search team, I was responsible for a significant portion of the Search Verticals.

My primary focus areas were Search Quality and Consumption on Search. My team worked on providing responses for organizations, geographical objects, travel (flights, hotels, trains, buses), media (movies, songs), and goods (everything you want to buy).

In addition, I managed UGC products that collected user reviews and data about organizations, publishing this information on Search. I also oversaw products for webmasters, which explained search rankings to site owners and helped improve content quality and search response.

As one of the three design managers on the Search team, I was responsible for a significant portion of the Search Verticals.

My primary focus areas were Search Quality and Consumption on Search. My team worked on providing responses for organizations, geographical objects, travel (flights, hotels, trains, buses), media (movies, songs), and goods (everything you want to buy).

In addition, I managed UGC products that collected user reviews and data about organizations, publishing this information on Search. I also oversaw products for webmasters, which explained search rankings to site owners and helped improve content quality and search response.

During my time with the Search team, the market was predominantly divided among Google, Yandex, and Bing. With almost no new audience to capture, our only growth strategy was to compete directly against other search engines.

Our main business challenge was capturing the largest share of the search market. Consequently, all my projects were focused on increasing MAU, retention, and revenue for Yandex Search.

Andromeda was the biggest search update for the team in the last 10 years. This update aimed to enhance the quality of answers and improve the search experience by better understanding informal queries and user intents.

I was responsible for managing quick answers related to various types of organizations and for collecting UGC content to enhance search quality.

We enabled users to buy and select tickets and hotels directly on Search, helping them find the best prices and compare offers from a range of providers. I spearheaded this project from the ground up, starting with the business opportunity initiation.

In the summer of 2020, Yandex faced a major antitrust investigation regarding the promotion of its own services on Yandex Search. As a product entirely designed to optimize search traffic, we had to quickly rethink our strategy and find a way to retain the audience we had gained through Search.
